First State-owned Wind Power Plant to be vested to public

The Mannar Wind Power Plant, the first state-owned wind farm in the country, is to be vested to the public by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today (08)

Solar Power, Wind and Hydro Power Generation Projects State Minister of Development Duminda Dissanayake stated that a capacity of 100 megawatts will be released to the national grid under this project.

Although there are wind power plants in the country, they are owned by the private sector and this is the first wind power plant owned by the Ceylon Electricity Board.

Reportedly, it costs less than Rs. 10 to generate a unit of electricity through this power plant consisting of 33 wind towers.

State Minister Duminda Dissanayake who participated in an inspection tour of the Mannar wind power plant which will be vested in the public today expressed his views in this regard.
