Local firm gets contract for the first phase of the Ruwanpura Expressway

The Cabinet has granted approval to award the contract for the construction of the Kahathuduwa to Ingiriya section of the Ruwanpura expressway to a local company.

According to the Highways Ministry, the approval was granted to the lowest bidder for the construction of the 24.3 km stretch of the expressway.

The Kahathuduwa to Ingiriya stretch of the Ruwanpura expressway will be divided into 4 separate segments.

The local company that has been awarded the contract for the construction of the Kahathuduwa to Ingiriya stretch of the expressway has been instructed to complete the construction on time.

Issuing the directive, the Minister of Highways has further called on the local company to complete the project according to acceptable standards.

The 73.9km expressway will begin from the Kahatuduwa exit point of the Southern Expressway and will end in Pelmadulla.

Highways Ministry said that the 3 phase project will be completed in 3 years.

  • Phase 01 – Kahatuduwa to Ingiriya will be 24.3km
  • Phase 02 –  Ingiriya to Ratnapura 21km
  • Phase 03 – Ratnapura to Pelmadulla 28.6
