Dead body found in a travelling bag: Investigation continues for the missing head

The head of the murdered girl found in a bag on Dam Street is yet to be found.

DIG of the Crimes and Organized Crime Division Priyantha Jayakody stated that a special investigation is underway in this regard.

Addressing a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday, he said that the manner in which the girl was killed could be revealed after several more investigations.

Police have also taken steps to conduct a DNA investigation to further confirm the identity of the deceased girl. Accordingly, the DNA samples of the murdered girl and her mother were taken yesterday.

The headless body found in a suitcase in the Dam Street area last Monday was identified as that of a 30-year-old unmarried girl residing in the Theppanawa area in Kuruwita yesterday.

The CCTV footage revealed a lot of information about the suspect and it was later revealed that he was a Sub Inspector of the Buttala Police.

He later committed suicide by hanging himself in a jungle area near his home.

On the morning of March 1, he had bought a suitcase and a knife from a place in Hanwella. CCTV footage in this regard was also released.

Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the officers of the crime scene had also found several blood marks during the search of the room where the girl and the Sub Inspector who had committed suicide were staying.
