Legal action to be taken against public servants who don't support COVID control

With the identification of 460 new infections yesterday, the total number of infected people in the country has increased to 82,890.

Of these, 425 are from the Peliyagoda coronavirus cluster and 35 are from abroad, according to the Government Information Department. Accordingly, 4,053 people are still being treated at the hospital ,while 78,373 have recovered.

No deaths were reported yesterday, bringing the number of COVID deaths in Sri Lanka to 464.

Meanwhile, 10 inmates of the Kegalle Remand Prison were infected with the virus. During the last seven days 08 cases were reported. There are 637 inmates in this remand prison which can hold about 300 inmates.

Eleven new COVID infections were reported from the Hatton police area.

Among them are the head and four employees of the regional office of a private estate company.

President of the Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors Association Upul Rohana stated that legal action could be taken against public servants who do not support COVID control.

Furthermore, 35,343 people were vaccinated yesterday and the total number of people vaccinated so far is 441,976.
