New law for Facebook & Google from Australia
Australia has passed a new law requiring payments to be made for news published on Facebook, social media and the Google search engine.
The move comes despite opposition from US tech giants, who have since reached an agreement with the Australian government.
Last week, Facebook blocked all news content for Australia, but it was later removed.
Australia has since passed a new law. Accordingly, Google and Facebook have to make significant payments to Australian news agencies.
This is known as a precedent for adding value to news on social media and online platforms.
