40,000 smuggled cigarettes seized in Gunasinhapura
The police stated that 40,000 Swiss-made cigarettes smuggled into the country were found in a housing unit in an apartment complex on Dias Mawatha in Gunasinhapura, Pettah.
According to information received by the Organized Crime Prevention Division, a 23-year-old suspect who is a resident of Haputale, was also arrested with the stock of cigarettes.
It was revealed that this person is an employee of an essential food wholesale store on Kaiser Street, Pettah.
Further questioning of the suspect revealed that the manager of the shop had carried out the racket.
The police have launched an investigation to arrest the suspect.
