Development of Colombo Port West Terminal: Trade Unions opposes involvement of India & Japan

Notices to involve Indian and Japanese investors in the development of the Western Terminal of the Colombo Port will be issued today, said the Secretary to the Ministry of Ports, U.D.C. Jayalal stated.

He stated that notifications would be issued to the embassies of those countries accordingly. The development work of the Western Terminal of the Colombo Port is to be implemented with the investors nominated by them.

India and Japan own 85% of the Western Terminal, while the Ports Authority owns only 15%.

Meanwhile, the All Ceylon Ports General Employees Union said in a statement that it opposes the involvement of India and Japan in the construction of the Colombo Port West Terminal.

They also request that the terminal be developed and maintained under the Sri Lanka Ports Authority
