Valentine’s Day financial scams : Police issue warning
The Police have urged the public to remain vigilant of financial scams being planned in view of Valentine’s Day.
The Police Spokesman Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said various groups are organizing financial scams via social media, email, and text message.
He called on the public not to respond to social media or email invites for Valentine’s Day celebrations, asking people to deposit cash or make credit card payments to participate in the events.
The Police Spokesman further requested people to refrain from falling victim to text messages seeking cash deposits to deliver gifts for their partners for Valentine’s Day.
DIG Ajith Rohana said information has been received on certain organized groups planning such financial rackets targeting unsuspecting people.
He said public events and parties for Valentine’s Day have been prohibited under the Quarantine Law and further requested the public to remain vigilant of such scams.
