This is to resolve the issue that has arisen due to reports that the Eastern Terminal of the Colombo Port will be handed over to an Indian company.

The Ports Trade Unions launched a trade union action against this on 29 January which is still in operation.

Employees of several other ports, including Galle and Trincomalee, also launched a trade union action yesterday in support of the work-to-rule action launched, despite the port and other related services being gazetted as essential services.

Meanwhile, a discussion was held between the Minister in charge of the subject Rohitha Abeygunawardena and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa this morning (01) at the Prime Minister's official residence in Wijerama, Colombo.
