A young woman was killed and another woman was injured in a head-on collision between a three-wheeler and a lorry in the Devon area in Talawakele on the Nuwara Eliya-Hatton road this morning.

The deceased was identified as Ganeshan Nithya (25), a resident of Nanu Oya, Talawakele.

A lorry belonging to the Nuwara Eliya General Hospital which was on its way towards Colombo to transport medicine had collided with a three-wheeler that was travelling from Colombo to Nanu Oya.

Police investigations have revealed that a mother and daughter were traveling in the three wheeler at the time of the accident.

The driver of the three wheeler was not injured in the accident and the body of the victim was taken to the Kotagala Hospital.

Dimbulapathana Police suspect that the accident had taken place due to the driver of the three wheeler falling asleep
