Geological officers visit Akiriya village the site of the tremors reported
Officials from the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau have arrived in Passara, Madolsima, Akiriya and several surrounding villages to inquire into the tremor reported.
Our correspondents stated that a team of officials from the Bureau had visited the area to inquire into the tremors previously as well.
A tremor measuring 2 on the Richter scale was reported in Madolsima, Akiriya and several surrounding villages yesterday (31) morning.
A similar tremor measuring 1.8 on the Richter scale was felt in the Akiriya and Walapane areas on the morning of the 22nd.
Athula Senaratne, a senior professor in the Department of Geology at the University of Peradeniya, says that there is a possibility of tremors in the central hills in the future as well and stated that people should be aware of this phenomenon
