Seven point strategy to revive Sri Lanka cricket

The Ministry of Sports has submitted a proposal consisting of 7 main points for the revival of Sri Lanka Cricket.

This was stated at a recent discussion chaired by Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa with the participation of several officials including the Sri Lanka Cricket authorities, the President of the National Sports Council Mahela Jayawardena and the Head Coach of the Sri Lanka Cricket team.

Accordingly, the 7 relevant points made for the development of Sri Lanka Cricket are as follows.

01 - Reconsider the current selection committee and nominate an alternative list of selectors.

02 - Reconsider the structure of the existing first class cricket tournament and limit the number of tier one teams to a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 14. The tier one will be considered the first class tournament.

03 - Organizing a new Super Provincial Tournament.

04 - Identify the officers who can be appointed for the Sri Lanka Cricket team.

Accordingly, it is proposed to nominate the posts of Team mentor, Cricket Director and Full Time Cricket Manager.

05 - Consider the incentive procedure in drafting contracts of players and coaches.

The focus here will be on maintaining their personal skills and continued discipline.

06 - The Sri Lanka Cricket Management to pay more attention to the physical fitness and discipline of the players and support staff while monitoring their performance.

07 - Nomination of a recommended cricket committee in the formulation of the national and international cricket structure.

Meanwhile, cricket sources say that there are plans to nominate several former cricketers for the nominated committee.

Among them are Aravinda de Silva, Mahela Jayawardena, Kumar Sangakkara, Muttiah Muralitharan and Roshan Mahanama.
