Officials focus on re-commencing school sports activities
Discussions were conducted to figure out the possibility of re-commencing the sports activities in schools with the participation of Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa, Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarchchi, Rural and School Sports Infrastructure Improvement State Minister, National Sports Council Member Kumar Sangakkara, and other officials belonging to Health Ministry, Sports Ministry and Education Ministry today (06).
The officials considered the possibility of re-commencing sports activities in all areas except where isolation restrictions are imposed and the Western Province where there is still a high risk of COVID-19.
They also pointed out that when conducting these sports activities, relevant officials must make sure that students from isolated areas do not participate in these activities.
Discussions also focused on the possibility of holding athletics meets in line with the current health guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health, as well as club sports and school Big Match competitions.
Officials of the Ministry of Health, including the Minister of Health, pointed out that it is time to hold sports competitions without the participation of many people.
At the conclusion of the meeting, officials with the Sports Ministry including Minister Rajapaksa stated that the suitable method in this regard is to formulate a national programme that can be followed.
