Over 100 Govt. MPs request full investigation into release of Rishad’s brother

A group of more than 100 Government MPs have requested a full investigation into the release of former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen’s brother who was arrested by the CID on suspicion of aiding and abetting the terrorists who carried out the Easter attack.

A letter signed by 100 members of the Government claiming that Riyad Bathiudeen was released by the CID without following proper legal procedure was handed over to the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday, the Prime Minister’s media division in statement said.

The MP’s state that despite strong evidence Riyad Bathiudeen was released by the CID on September 30 without presenting him in court and without any legal permission.

A group of more than 100 ruling party parliamentarians have called on the President and the Prime Minister to order a full investigation into this act by the CID and to re-arrest Riyad Bathiudeen and enforce the law in a proper manner, the statement said.

Riyad Bathiudeen, brother of former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen was arrested by the CID on April 14 on suspicion of aiding and abetting the terrorists who carried out the Easter attack on April 21, 2019.
