New Coronavirus variant could enter via Middle East arrivals
Government doctors warn of a possible entry in Sri Lanka of the new variant of the Coronavirus found in Britain and Africa via arrivals from the Middle East.
GMOA editor Dr. Haritha Aluthge points out that countries like Singapore and Israel too, have reported this new variant.
Meanwhile, head of the government medical laboratory technologists Ravi Kumudesh says Health Ministry laboratories are without the gene
sequence analysis equipment required to test this new Coronavirus variant.
However, Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, director of the Sri Jayewardenepura University’s allergy immunology and cell biology unit, claims the country has adequate facilities for the purpose.
