Hospital fire in Turkey kills nine COVID patients

Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca stated that five persons were killed in a fire that broke out at a COVID-19 intensive care unit of a private hospital in the Southeastern Turkish province of Gaziantep.

Releasing a statement, the local governorship stated that the cause of the fire was identified to be an explosion of an oxygen ventilator.

They added that other patients who were receiving treatment at the unit were transferred to nearby hospitals.

Two officers with the local prosecutor’s office are conducting investigations into the incident.
