Mattala Airport issues clarification on charter flight that arrived on 22nd September

The Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) has issued a clarification with regard to a chartered flight that landed in September.

Many allegations have been raised on social media on the chartered flights operated by the apparel factory in Minuwangoda embroiled in the recent COVID-19 outbreak in Sri Lanka.

Issuing a statement, Director Operations of the MRIA Shehan Sumanasekara said that 48 passengers had arrived at the Mattala Airport on flight UL 1160 on the 22nd of September.

They were facilitated following all health authority guidelines and were sent for quarantine at a hotel in Kosgoda under the purview of the Sri Lanka forces.

Sumanasekara further said that all passengers who arrived on the flight are of Sri Lankan origin, and none were Indians.
