'Playoff' concept to be considered for next LPL?
Galle Gladiators who had only won two matches in the preliminary rounds of the Lanka Premier League, qualified for the final match yesterday (13).
They were able to beat Colomb Kings by two wickets in the first semi-finals match held yesterday (13).
With the unexpected victory, well-wishers extended their congratulations to Galle Gladiators.
Former Sri Lanka cricket captain Mahela Jayawardena was among the well-wishers. He noted that it was a great semi-final. He added that implementation of 'playoff' concept must be considered next year.
Prior to the semi-final match, Colomb Kings Angelo Mathews commented that the structure of the league must be changed. He pointed out that the top two teams which are ranked on top of the points table with the highest number of bonus points must be given another chance to play for finals.
Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa also proposed the concept of 'playoff' while extending wishes to the Galle Gladiators.
