10 remanded over damage to Ipalogama archaeological site

Ten persons have been remanded until 24 December in connection with the damage caused to an archaeological site at Ipalogama in Anuradhapura.

The suspects were produced before Kekirawa acting magistrate Uditha B. Ekanayake today (13).

The site believed to be where the historic Vijithapura fortress had been located was damaged during the construction of a wall without permission to separate a mosque and a public cemetery at Alahapperumagama.

The head of the mosque is among the suspects.
