COVID cases in SL exceed 26,000

With the identification of 627 patients that were identified yesterday (03), the total number of COVID patients in Sri Lanka exceeded 26,000. Accordingly, the total number of COVID patients reported in Sri Lanka stands at 26,038.

The Minuwangoda Brandix factory and Peliyagoda fish factory coronavirus clusters increased to 22,488.

With the recovery of 728 patients yesterday (03) the total number of recoveries increased to 19,032.

The death toll in the country also increased to 129 with the 05 deaths that were reported yesterday (03).

Among them was a 56-year-old woman from the Kolonnawa area who was being treated at the Colombo General Hospital. The cause of death was identified to be complications that arose with cardiovascular disease and diabetes after contracting COVID-19.

An 89-year-old male from Colombo-12 has died while being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. The cause of death of given by the health authorities as to the COVID-19 infection and bleeding inside the brain due to high blood pressure.

An 85-year-old male resident of Colombo 10 died on admission to the Colombo National Hospital. The cause of death is complications caused by an acute bacterial infection with COVID-19 infection.

Another 71-year-old male resident of Colombo 10 has died at home and the cause of death was a heart attack along with a COVID-19 infection.

A 78-year-old male resident of Colombo 02 has died while being treated at the Colombo National Hospital where the cause of death was given as a respiratory dysfunction with COVID-19 pneumonia

Meanwhile, Education Minister Prof. G.L. Pieris stated yesterday (03) that the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination will likely be held in March 2021. However, Ceylon Teachers Union General Secretary Joseph Stalin stated that the action taken by the Ministry of Education regarding the conduct of examinations and schools is irregular.
