CID probe into Mahara Prison unrest to be completed in two weeks

Prisons Reforms and Rehabilitation State Minister Lohan Ratwatte stated that none of the detainees had been killed by gunshots fired by Prison officers or STF personnel during the recent unrest at the Mahara Prison.

The State Minister said so while participating in the adjournment debate held in Parliament yesterday (03) regarding the incident.

Speaking further, the State Minister stated that action would be taken against those who had caused damage to property during the incident.

Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said statements were recorded from 56 persons including prison officers and detainees by the Criminal Investigation Department thus far.

The unrest at the Mahara Prison resulted in the deaths of 11 inmates that were detained at the Mahara Prison, while 108 persons including two Prison officers sustained injuries.
