The Public Health Inspectors Union of Sri Lanka has warned there is a high risk of Covid-19 spreading through the continuous operation of Government and Private institutions in areas currently under isolation.

“By allowing private and government offices in areas currently under isolation to function, we see the detection of Covid-19 patients from these institutions. It’s becoming evident that these areas are under threat due to the operation of these institutions,” President of the Union Upul Rohana said.

Rohana further said the spread of the virus is out of control especially within some areas in Colombo Municipal Council.

He also raised concerns over the measures taken within Colombo Port

“There is a serious concern over the measures taken within Ports operations and if they are adhering to health guidelines. Strict attention should be focused on whether the functioning institutions within the isolated areas are following health guidelines,” he said.

The PHI union sats that despite various containment measures being implemented, the spread of the virus and death toll continues within the Colombo Municipal Council city limits.
