The Dambulla Police have arrested a youth on charges of misusing the photograph of a female GCE Advanced Level Examination student on social media.

The youth is reported to have obtained the photograph from the victim’s Facebook profile, converted it to a nude photograph and had circulated it to the victim’s school teacher via Whatsapp.

The suspect has been identified as a 27-year-old youth from Mahiyanganaya.

The victim who is a 20-year-old A/Level student from a school in Dambulla had filed a complaint in this regard with the Women and Child Bureau of the Dambulla Police a few days prior to the suspect’s arrest.

The girl had revealed that the youth had been involved in a romantic relationship with her friend, and had contacted her through her mobile number after her friend had ended the relationship with him.

The suspect had constantly contacted the victim requesting her to help him reconnect with her friend, to which the latter had refused.

Following the refusal, the suspect is said to have obtained her photograph from her private Facebook profile and threatened to release it as a nude photograph on social media.

The victim had informed Police that the suspect had thereafter created a nude photograph with her image and had sent it via Whatsapp to a teacher at her school.

The suspect has been detained for interrogation, while the Dambulla Police is conducting further investigations into the incident.
