LPL : Afridi cleared to play for Galle Gladiators without undergoing 7 days quarantine after tests clear him

Former Pakistan cricket legend Shahid Afridi will be available for the opening match of the Galle Gladiators in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2020 cricket tournament today.

The Galle Gladiators led by Afridi will take on the Jaffna Stallions led by Thisara Perera in the second match of the tournament in Hambantota this evening.

Earlier tournament organizers announced that Afridi will miss the opening game of the Galle Gladiators due to the mandatory quarantine process imposed on foreign players.

He arrived in Sri Lanka on Wednesday (25) to participate in the LPL 2020.

Galle Gladiators owner Nabeel Hashmi confirmed that Afridi has been cleared to play today’s match after his anti-bodies test cleared him.

According to sources, the former Pakistan skipper has been cleared to play in the LPL without undergoing the mandatory 07-day quarantine imposed on foreign players.

The sources said medical authorities have cleared Shahid Afridi as he had already contracted the coronavirus and recovered, prior to his arrival in Sri Lanka.

Medical authorities in charge of the tournament have further said that special tests, including PCR tests, were conducted on Afridi.

They added that expert medical advise has been obtained clearing Afridi of contracting the virus again in the near future
