A total of 22 staff members at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children (LRH) are exposed to COVID-19, with the second wave of the virus, hospital sources said.

“22 staff members including doctors and nurses have contracted the virus, while close to 45 patients at the LRH, are detected to have contracted the virus,” Dr. G. Wijesuriya, the Director at the LRH said on Wednesday (Nov. 25).

According to Dr. Wijesuriya, around two patients among those who visit for treatment daily, are confirmed to have contracted the virus; with a majority of such cases confirmed on patients who visit from Colombo and its suburbs.

Among such cases confirmed are children and at times both the child and the parent as well.

“After providing the necessary treatment and surgeries if required, these patients are directed for COVID-19 treatment,” Dr. Wijesuriya told
