We heard a story about a courageous little boy named Shalidu Denuwan Kotelawala who has been born with a disability but has not let it interfere with his education. The child who faced the Grade 05 Scholarship examination this year, has also able to pass it with flying colours.

He and his mother Nilanthi Dias reside in Pabeyala, Beruwala. Studying at the Katukurunda Roman Catholic College, Shalidu has not allowed his disability to hinder his education.

Facing the Grade 05 Scholarship examination this year amidst many challenges, Shalidu has passed the exam with 169 marks.

After his father left them while he has been a child, the only income to the family has been from his mother's three-wheeler job.

Due to the prevailing economic difficulties, the house where the mother and son live could not be built properly as well.

Shalidu Denuwan is an example to the whole society as he prepares to do his duty for his country by completing his education in the midst of many challenges.
