COPE uncovers irregularities in central expressway construction

The Committee on Public Enterprises has uncovered several irregularities in the construction of the central expressway.

According to the communication division of parliament, more than Rs. 1.7 billion had been spent on the feasibility study for the project.

The COPE, meeting yesterday (21), was told that another feasibility study before 2012 cost Rs. 284 million.

A Rs. 08 billion loss had been incurred due to the delay from 2015 to 2019 in the expressway’s first phase work between Kadawatha and Mirigama.

Also, a decision without expert opinion had been made in 2015 to start the expressway from Kadawatha, instead of from Enderamulla.
