National policy on preschool education under formulation
The Ministry of Education is formulating a national policy on preschool education
A draft prepared by experts in this regard was discussed at a meeting at the University Grants Commission on 19 November.
Several amendments were agreed upon and a nine-member committee headed by Ven. Prof. Medagoda Abhayatissa Thera will take a final decision on 11 December.
Meanwhile, education minister Prof. G.L. Peiris told the media in Kandy yesterday that schools, excepting those in the western province and in isolated areas, would begin the third term on 23 November.
However, several groups have called for a reconsideration of the decision.
