Team of experts to explore tremors in Kandy

The report of the research team on the recent tremor in the Digana area in Kandy is due to be released next Monday.

The Minister in charge of the subject Mahinda Amaraweera instructed the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau to submit a report on the earthquake yesterday. A three member team of experts has left to inspect the affected area.

Three tremors have been reported in the area within a short period of time, and investigations are currently underway to determine if the tremor was caused by the release of pressure on the limestone layers in the earth's interior.

Accordingly, the relevant report will be handed over to the Chairman of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau Anura Walpola next Monday, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Environment.
