Showers or thundershowers in parts of the island after 2pm
The Department of Meteorology says showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, North-Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m.
Fairly heavy showers about 75mm can be expected at some places in aforementioned areas.
Light showers will occur in coastal areas of the Northern and the Eastern provinces in the morning.
The Met. Department urges the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea areas:
There is a possibility of low-pressure area developing to the South-East of Sri Lanka. Fishing and naval community will be informed of the development in due course, the Met. Department said.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo. A few showers may occur in the other sea areas around the island.
Winds will be North-easterly in the sea areas extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Kankesanturai, Trincomalee and Batticaloa. Winds will be variable in the direction in the other sea areas around the island.
The wind speed will be 20-30 kmph. The wind speed can increase up to 50kmph at times over sea area extending from Colombo to Kankesanturai via Mannar.
The sea area around the island can be slight to moderate. The sea areas extending from Colombo to Kankesanturai via Mannar will be fairly rough at times.
Temporarily strong gusty winds (up to 70-80 kmph) and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
