117 people arrested to-date following aerial surveillance op
Sri Lanka Police said several individuals are reported to have violated the Quarantine Law in areas placed in isolation.
Legal action will be instituted against such individuals as per the provisions of the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance.
On Tuesday (17) 95 people were arrested from Kotahena, Ja-Ela, Keselwatte, and Wattala Police areas following an aerial surveillance operation.
In total 117 people were arrested following the aerial surveillance which was carried out by Sri Lanka Police with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Air Force.
Legal action will be instituted against the suspects as per the provisions of the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance.
In addition, Sri Lanka Police arrested 07 people on Tuesday (17) for failing to wear a face mask and maintain social distancing.
Since the 30th of October to-date, 297 people were arrested by Sri Lanka Police for those offenses.
Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said the isolation order in respect of 24 police areas in the Gampaha and Colombo District, remains in effect and stressed for those living in these areas to remain indoors.
However, employees of government, semi-government and statutory bodies located in Maradana, Keselwatte, Dam Street, Pettah, Fort, and Slave Island are permitted to report to work and adhere to the Quarantine Regulations
