PM Mahinda Rajapakse turns 75 today (Video)

Today is the 75th birthday of the present Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, who has been the president twice and the Prime Minister four times in his political career spanning 50 years

An alms giving ceremony for mothers was held at the Narahenpita Abhayarama Temple this morning to coincide with the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Rohitha Rajapaksa posted on his social media how the the first grandson of the Mahinda Rajapaksa family is congratulating the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also engaged in religious observances at the Parliament premises and later joined a birthday celebration with government ministers and MPs at his office.

Born on November 18, 1945 in Palatuwa, Mahinda Rajapaksa enjoyed a rich political heritage from an early age.

With the blessings of the Kurahan scarf inherited from the Rajapaksa dynasty, young Mahinda entered the election campaign at the age of 25 and contested the general election from Beliatta in 1970 and polled 23,103 votes defeating his UNP rival who managed only 16,477 votes.

Mahinda Rajapaksa represented parliament as one of the youngest Parliamentarians at that time.

Having experienced great victories as well as defeats in his political career, Mahinda Rajapaksa has served as a Member of Parliament, Cabinet Minister, Leader of the Opposition, Prime Minister and Executive President.

He has secured several milestones for the country in his political career of over half a century.

This veteran politician also has the honor of ending the long drawn war that persisted in the country for 30 years.

Since then he has waged a development war in the country and contributed in many more victories.

Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is holding the post of Prime Minister for the fourth time with the blessings of the people of Sri Lanka, is a guiding light for President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's  Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour
