Weather update 18 Nov: Showers to continue
The Department of Meteorology states that showers or thundershowers will occur at several places over the most parts of the island in the afternoon or night. Showers will also occur in the Southern province and in coastal areas of Western province in the morning.
Fairly heavy showers above 50mm can be expected at some places in Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and in Kaluthara district.
General public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS

Condition of Rain:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurei to Pothuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. A few showers may occur in the other sea ares around the island.
Winds:
Winds will be South-westerly in the sea areas extending from Galle to Pothuvil via Matara and Hambantota. Winds will be Easterly or variable in dirrection in the other sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be (25-35) kmph.
State of Sea:
The sea areas around the island can be slight to moderate.
Temporarily strong gusty winds (up to 70-80 kmph) and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
