New Manning Market Complex in Peliyagoda set to open

Construction work of New Peliyagoda Manning Market has been completed and is set to be opened very soon.

The new Manning Market in Peliyagoda is on 15 acres of land and will consist of over 1000 shops, a massive vehicle park, resting areas for workers, cool rooms, banking facilities, etc.

Preliminary plans to relocate the Pettah Manning Market in Peliyagoda on a 15-acre land were drafted before 2015 under the guidance of then Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa, State Newspaper Daily News said.

The Cabinet of the previous government in 2016 approved the relocation of the Manning Market and former Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka commenced the project to relocate the Manning Market in a land owned by the Urban Development Authority in Peliyagoda area at an estimated cost of Rs. 4 billion.

The two-acre land in the heart of Colombo where the Manning Market is currently located will be used effectively for development projects after it is relocated   in Peliyagoda, State Minister of Urban Development, Coast Conservation, Waste Disposal and Community Cleanliness Dr. Nalaka Godahewa said.

“Plans have already been drafted with regard to such projects,” he said after making an observation visit to the Manning Market in Pettah few months ago.
