The total number of COVID-19 positive patients in the country has exceeded 15,000 mark yesterday, the Health Ministry’s Epidemiology Unit stated.

The COVID-19 death toll rose to 48 yesterday afternoon with two more deaths confirmed by the Department of Government Information.

Both patients had been receiving treatment at the Mulleriyawa Hospital. One of the deceased is a 54-year-old male from the Colombo 12 area  and the other is a 45-year-old male from Meegoda.

The total number of COVID positive cases currently stands at 15,350.

Around 10,653 of them have recovered while 4,651 remain in hospitals.

The total number of persons who tested positive for the virus in the Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda clusters rose to 11,857 by 10 am yesterday.

Meanwhile, the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) yesterday stated around 10,207 PCR tests were carried out across the country during the day Wednesday (12) and the total PCR tests conducted so far stands at 629,315.
