Sri Lanka has recorded 90,695 dengue cases so far in 2026, with health authorities warning of sustained high transmission across several districts and provinces. 

According to the National Dengue Control Unit, 5,348 cases were reported in August up to midnight on August 11, following a sharp surge of 29,973 cases in July and 21,533 in June.

The Western Province remains the epicenter, accounting for more than half of all cases (52.9%). Gampaha (19,291 cases) and Colombo (16,909 cases) are the hardest‑hit districts, together contributing nearly 40% of the national total. Other high‑burden districts include Kandy (6,466), Matara (5,990), and Kalutara (5,416).

Southern Province has reported 12,206 cases, while Central Province recorded 7,475. Smaller but notable clusters have emerged in Sabaragamuwa (5,114), North Western (4,050), and Uva (4,137). Northern and Eastern provinces continue to report lower totals, with 1,287 and 2,799 cases respectively.

Health officials confirmed 65 dengue‑related deaths this year, translating to a case fatality rate of 0.07%. The number of high‑risk Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas stood at 119 during Week 31, with an average of 1,509 new cases reported daily.

Authorities have urged intensified community‑level prevention measures, particularly in urban and semi‑urban areas where mosquito breeding sites are prevalent.
