Heavy rains forecast in Northern areas
More than 250 mm of rainfall has been reported in several areas in the Mullaitivu district, the Meteorology Department said yesterday.
The Department forecast showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Northern, Eastern, North Central and North Western province.
Heavy showers above 300 mm can be expected at some places in Northern, North Central and Wayamba Province, North Western Province and in Trincomalee districts.
Heavy rainfall of about 100 to 150 mm are likely at some places in North Western province. The Meteorology Department urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
