UAE Team Deploys to Hardest-Hit Zone in Kandy; Recovers 10 Bodie

The UAE Search and Rescue team continues to execute its humanitarian missions in Sri Lanka as part of the urgent response efforts following the recent landslides and floods in the country.

Today, the team deployed to Zone 2 – Rambuk-ela/Vilanagama in the Akurana DS area, Kandy District, considered one of the hardest-hit areas. In this location, homes situated on a mountain peak were struck by a landslide, causing more than 16 houses to collapse and be swept down into the valley below.

Immediately upon arrival, the UAE team commenced operations using specialized equipment and K9 units to search the area. The team meticulously scoured the site despite the challenging terrain and the hazardous nature of the zone.

During today’s operations, the team successfully recovered 10 bodies from beneath the rubble and within the valley’s course. Field efforts to locate missing persons are ongoing in coordination with relevant Sri Lankan authorities.

The intervention of the UAE Search and Rescue team reflects the UAE’s enduring commitment to supporting friendly nations during crises and disasters, providing urgent humanitarian aid to save lives and alleviate the suffering of those affected.
