Covid-19 infected persons in prisons increases to 550
The number of coronavirus infections in prisons islandwide has increased to 550.
The Administrative Commissioner of the Prisons Department Chandana Ekanayake stated that 19 new infected persons were identified yesterday.
Meanwhile, 20 inmates continue to protest on the roof of the Welikada Prison demanding that their cases be expedited under the current situation.
Yesterday one inmate died while four were captured when 05 inmates who were quarantined at Old Bogambara prison, tried to escape from the prison.
The total country covid-19 cases increased to 18,400 and the deaths to 69.
