Gold Price Breaks Rs. 400,000 Barrier in Sri Lanka for First Time

For the first time in Sri Lanka’s market history, the price of a sovereign of 24-carat gold has surpassed Rs. 400,000.

Gold is shining brighter than ever.  On Friday (17), the price reached Rs. 410,000/-.

On October 16, 2025, gold futures surged past $4,250 per ounce, pushing the market capitalization up by an astonishing $300 billion overnight.

Globally, investors are turning to gold as a safe-haven amid growing economic uncertainty, a weakening dollar, inflation fears, and expectations of U.S. Federal Reserve rate cuts. This historic rally highlights the precious metal’s enduring appeal during times of market volatility.
