Sri Lanka’s Dengue Cases Climb to 19,000+ in 2025
The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) has raised concerns over a sharp increase in dengue cases across the country, with over 19,000 cases and seven deaths reported so far in 2025, according to Director Dr. Sudath Samaraweera.
While the outbreak in Ratnapura District has been largely brought under control, several Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions in the area continue to report high case numbers.
In response, the NDCU has announced a special dengue eradication program targeting high-risk MOH divisions.
The campaign will run from May 19 to May 24, focusing on mosquito breeding site elimination, public awareness, and community engagement.
