Elderly experience 30% more complications due to COVID than young adults
Joining the 'Paththare Visthare' programme aired on Hiru TV, Health Promotion Bureau Director, Dr. Palitha Karunaprema stated that the age of the patient does not have a significant effect when contracting coronavirus.
He added that however, after getting infected, the elderly experience almost 30% more complications than a young adult who is infected with the virus, due to chronic illnesses.
The Director noted that the virus strain that is spread in Sri Lanka is the most prevalent among the thousand other virus strains.
Accordingly, he commented that persons who are travelling outside their homes must act responsibly in the current situation.
Speaking further he pointed out that the health guidelines have been issued to reduce the chances of people gathering in every possible way.
He said that if a group filming is carried out, it must be done so by adhering to the relevant health guidelines and by employing a minimum number of staff.
