Government Agrees to Consider Opposition's Request for Increased Representation in Parliamentary Committees

The government has agreed to consider the opposition's request for increased representation in parliamentary committees.

This agreement was made during a special party leaders' meeting chaired by the Speaker, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.

The meeting was convened to discuss the opposition's request, made by the Chief Opposition Whip, to expand their representation in the committees.

The government's stance on this request was formally communicated to the Speaker, by the leader of the house in writing.

The Parliament Secretary General Kushani Rohandheera confirmed that the letter was also presented to the standing committee.
