Defence Ministry Holds National Safety Day Commemoration
Today marks the "National Safety Day," a day of remembrance for all those who lost their lives due to the devastating 2004 tsunami and various other disasters that occurred in the country.
Since the day of the 2004 tsunami that changed Sri Lankans forever, December 26th has been commemorated every year.
Since 2012, this day has been declared as National Safety Day by the government of Sri Lanka.
In remembrance of all the lives that were lost on the 26th of December 2004, a National Safety Day commemoration will be held today (26) at 9:00 am at the Defence Ministry’s Disaster Management Division.
The event is set to take place from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM today, under the leadership of the Deputy Minister of Defence, with the participation of the Secretary of Defence.
