Interim Order Halting Cabinet Decision on Passport Procurement

The Court of Appeal has issued an interim order, suspending the implementation of a Cabinet decision to approve the purchase of 750,000 N-Series electronic passports from two companies.

This procurement is part of an initial tender to supply five million electronic passports.

The order was issued following a writ petition filed by Epic Lanka (Pvt) Ltd and its Executive Chairman, who alleged that the tender process was corrupt and violated procurement guidelines.

The interim order was granted by Court of Appeal Judge Mohamed Laffar and will remain in effect until October 1.
