Grama Niladhari Officers Strike Over Unconsulted Constitution

Grama Niladhari Officers across Sri Lanka will go on strike today.

The Grama Niladhari Officers are protesting against the recent gazetting of the Grama Niladhari Service Constitution, which they claim was done without proper consultation with relevant stakeholders.

Jagath Chandralal, the convenor of the Joint Professional Association of Grama Niladhari Officers and Administrative Grama Niladhari Officers, has voiced the collective discontent.

He announced that a special discussion is slated for tomorrow to deliberate on the future course of action in response to this legislative move.

In a show of escalating protest, the association has declared a 'black protest week' until the 19th of this month.

This announcement comes on the heels of a protest that took place in Colombo yesterday.

Despite the ongoing discussions, Chandralal confirmed that yesterday's talks with the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration reached an impasse, with no resolution in sight.

However, in a statement that may bring some relief to the public, Chandralal assured that the trade union actions would not disrupt the upcoming election duties.
