Election Commission Gears Up for Presidential Polls
A meeting was held on Tuesday (09) at the Election Commission to discuss preparations for the upcoming Presidential Election. Representatives from the Government Printer, Inspector General of Police, and Postmaster General were present.
The Government Printer confirmed having enough materials to conduct five elections. The Government Printer also informed the commission about a significant increase (four times) in printing costs compared to previous elections. A detailed estimate will be provided soon.
The Inspector General of Police pledged comprehensive security arrangements, covering the nomination period through the election's end.
The Postmaster General assured the commission of smooth operations for all election-related activities, including ballot paper distribution.
According to the Constitution, the National Election Commission can announce the Presidential Election after July 17th. Chairman of the Election Commission R.M.A.L. Rathnayake confirmed their intention to announce the election date before the end of July.
