CCD officers having COVID: AG orders special team to probe Brandix cluster
Attorney General Dappula de Livera has instructed the Acting IGP to transfer the criminal investigation probe over the spread of COVID-19 from the Minuwangoda Brandix cluster from the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) and to appoint a special investigating team from other units.
The Attorney General’s coordinating officer, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said that it was reported to the Attorney General yesterday that the Acting IGP had only referred the investigation to the Colombo Crimes Division and following that a team of officers comprising an Assistant Superintendent of Police had been appointed for the purpose.
However, the Colombo Crimes Division informed that it is difficult to investigate this situation due to certain CCD officers having been recently tested positive for COVID-19.
Accordingly, the Attorney General has instructed the Acting Inspector General of Police to appoint a high level team of senior competent and experienced officers from various divisions to look into the situation, she added.
On October 28, the Attorney General directed the Acting IGP to immediately commence a Criminal investigation over spread from Minuwangoda Brandix Covid-19 cluster.
Further, Acting IGP was ordered to submit preliminary progress report on the investigation on or before November 13.
