Partially constructed Section of the Central Expressway collapses

A section of the Mirigama-Kadawatha Expressway, that had been partially constructed, has collapsed.

The Road Development Authority said that a 35 meters long concrete beam had collapsed.

He added that two other beams are now at risk of collapsing.

The Road Development Authority said that laying of concrete beams along this section was completed in 2021.

The reason for the beam collapsing has not yet been ascertained.

The Road Development Authority also said that in view of the existing risk, the quality of all the beams along the 17-Km section of the road will be tested.

With the agreement with the IMF coming into play the construction of the expressway was recently suspended.
