Ambulance Driver Shortage Threatens Sri Lanka's Government Hospital System
The Government Health Service Ambulance Drivers Association highlighted a shortage of ambulance drivers in the government hospital system.
Its chairman W. D. Wijesinghe said there are nearly 300 vacancies for ambulance drivers.
He added that the current subject Minister has been notified and cabinet approval has been obtained to recruit 32 drivers.
However, Wijesinghe emphasized that despite applications being called, no recruitment has been done.
He stressed the sensitive nature of the job, requiring many drivers to work overtime to ensure public health and safety.
